Note: In my notes, dictated to me by my mother and father, I have
the names of John B. and Elizabeth Dorman's children as:
I have an update today, 7 Nov. 2003:
Melissa Jane Dorman b. 1854 (W.A. (Bud) Whiddon)
Emily Caroline Dorman b. 1856 (W.A. Walker)(my paternal grandmother)
Alfred Kyle Dorman b. 1857 (Mattie Sorrell)(my father, Alvy Kyle Walker was named after him)
Willie Ann Dorman b. 1860 (Tom Sholar)
John Tandy Dorman b. 1866 (Mary Mae Pickard)
Samford M. Dorman b. 1870
Dola Dorman b. 1887 (never married-slightly retarded)
Alice Dorman (Sholar) (Dave Sholar)
Pathinea Dorman (Died young)
William Watt Dorman (Never married-died young)
I have dificulty in matching some of the children's names with those
in the three censuses above.
1. My information has been that Melissa was born in 1863, but
according to the 1860 census, M.J. was 6, which means that
she was probably born in 1853 (not 1863). While pondering
her birthdate, I looked through my documents and saw where
I had written her birth and death dates directly from her
headstone. It read: b. 10 Sep 1854 and d. 26 may 1931. This
leaves a big question about the 1880 census that lists her
and with and age of 17. In 1880 she was probably already
married and if so whose name should have been there instead
of hers?
Any clarifying information that would clear up these discrepancies
would be most welcome.
