John Blanton Dorman, born June 3, 1822 in Georgia and died December 9, 1879 in Shelby Co.,Tx. from pneumonia contracted while waiting for a ferry to carry him from Logansport,La. across the Sabine River to Haslam, Tx. (approximately 3 miles east of Joaquin,Tx.). He married Elizabeth Jane Morris ca 1853. She was born January 9, 1836 in Louisiana and died November 8, 1916 in Joaquin, Shelby Co., Tx in the home of her daughter, Emily Caroline Dorman Walker and son-in-law, William Alexander Walker. Both are buried in Jackson Cemetery, Shelby County Texas.
