Note: Nancy and William T. were living in the
household of Sanders Kirkland, the elder Nancy's
brother. The whereabouts of William S. has
been largely unknown but according to the
1850 Shelby county Texas census, he is in his
parent's household and his age is 26. I found him
on the Panola County census of 1860 in his own
household with a wife Catherine E. Upton Scott
and two children, a 4 year old and a 6 month old.
It has now been discovered by Kim Foster (in a
lodge document) that William died in 1869. She
also discovered that he and Catherine had other
children and that both William and Catherine
were deceased at the time of the Shelby County
census of 1870 and their children were living
with Catherine's twice widowed mother, Nancy A.
Upton Stephens. In the 1880 census, both she and
one of William S. and Catherine's daughters, Elizabeth
Scott were living with Nancy's son-in-law, Dr.
William Spivey. More details on William S., William T.,
and families can be found elsewhere on this site.
