History of the "Southern Hospitality" Article

The above titled article was generated about 1968 and appeared, I believe, in the Center,Texas paper, "The Champion-Light". A copy was sent to me, Lannie Gene Walker,Sr. by my cousin, Charlene Walker Brazell of Bartlesville, OK. In the story, the three cousins mentioned by Altonie Walker Taylor were children of my grandfather, William Alexander (Bill) Walker. The three cousins mentioned were: W. Elzey Walker (the eight year old), Alvy Kyle Walker (the five year old boy, my father), and Lavada Walker Talley (the eleven year old girl).

Note: This is being written much later and after learning a lot of new facts. As I have learned, Randal Blackshear was a half brother to William T. Scott, as was Bryant Byrd Blackshear who was the 2nd driver mentioned in the article. They were the children of the William T. Scott's mother and her 2nd husband, Randolph Blackshear. Altogether, she had 4 children with Blackshear. William T. Scott was the son of William S. Scott, who was the eldest child of John and Nanct Kirkland Scott. As we learned in recent years, William S Scott came to Texas with his parents and his wife Nancy Kirkland Scott (yes, she had the same maiden name as her husband's mother!) in 1846. Ten years later she married Randolph Blackshear and also 10 years later William S Scott married Elizabeth Upton in Panola county Texas. Together They had 5 children.
